When you see some of the children’s rooms that ultra-creative parents have made, your jaw might drop. Of course, these parents probably had a lot of time and money on their hands. That, or they were just really eager for those bedrooms to go viral on social media! But are these sorts of bedrooms really that useful for a kid? Is a cool, creative room actually that important?
Well, to an extent, yes. Kids should have a room that inspires them. No matter how elaborate or simple their room is, it should be a place they enjoy being in. It should allow them room and inspiration in which to think and work. The perfect room encourages the imagination, encourages play, encourages a good night’s rest.
So how is such a bedroom achieved? We’re going to take a look at some important methods here.
A focus on creativity
Decorating any room can be tricky, but the decoration of your kid’s room seems to require the most nuance of all of them. The fostering of creativity and hard work doesn’t require you to have the sort of elaborate decorations you’ll have noticed in the linked page in the first paragraph. Bright but calming colors can be very important, and having some simple but effective items – such as a comfortable desk suitable for their height – can be much more useful than some of the more frivolous decorations you often see in children’s bedrooms!
Comfort and bedtime
Making sure they get a good night’s sleep is essential to ensuring your kid remains creative and hard-working. This is important from an early age, so you should consider looking here for the sorts of beds that last from infancy to later years. Having a comfortable place to sit is also important so as to encourage the kind of creative activity that requires a seat – drawing, studying, reading, writing, that sort of thing! Bean bags are a really simple way of introducing a cool seating option into their room that also happens to be extremely comfortable!
The entertainment question
This is the trickiest question of the lot to some parents! A lot of kids these days seem to have televisions in their rooms; the only reason these numbers are starting to dwindle is because a lot of them now have laptops and smartphones! While these things can encourage creativity, nothing in the entertainment world is better at fostering imaginative thought than books. Your kid should have a bookcase and an accompanying book collection to be proud of.
One of the most important reasons that a kid should really enjoy a given room is connected to the importance of adults enjoying the rooms they inhabit: because it encourages them to take proper care of it. Keeping a room clean is essential, and the encouragement of cleanliness helps develop discipline in your child. Among other tips, a great way of making sure they keep their rooms clean is to ensure they appreciate cleanliness itself. Have them pay attention to how great the room is when it’s clean – this will help instill the right mindset.
