Having a pet in the home is perfect for completing the family. The addition of a dog can help your children grow, and give them a friend that’s always there. We all know, though, that pet owning isn’t simple. Pet safety requires ongoing effort, especially when a dog’s involved. A dog may bring a lot of love to a home, but they can carry a lot of pests too. It’s a risk you can’t take with your children. Don’t fight hard to keep your home safe, just to let pests walk in with your family pet. How do you deal with the problem? You should be using treatments to ensure your dog doesn’t carry anything nasty. Here are just a few of the steps you should be taking!
Fleas are horrible, and once they’re in your home, it’s hard to get them out again. Stop the problem by regularly applying flea treatment to your dog. There are many products on the market, like Frontline Plus for dogs. You can now buy these treatments online, and in most pharmacies, so there’s no excuse for not using them! Many are all in one treatments, which also protect your dog against tics and other nasty creatures! It’s as simple as applying a small tube of ointment to your dog’s collar every few months. Your dog may not like it, but it’s easy enough to do quickly. Better to struggle with your dog for a few minutes than spending months trying to deal with a flea problem!
Worms are another nasty parasite you don’t want to be dealing with. While they don’t infect your home in the same way as fleas, they’re equally unpleasant! Worms can cause lots of damage and pain to your pet, as well as potentially infecting the rest of you! Deworming tablets are as easy to come by as flea treatments, and again should be given every few months. Dewormers come in pill form, and we all know how intelligent dogs are when avoiding tablets. Get creative when trying to administer these. If you put it in your dog’s food, it’s inevitable that they’ll eat everything but. Crush the tablet and mix it with the food, or wrap it in a piece of cheese. It’s worth alternating methods every time so your dog doesn’t cotton on!
Unlike other treatments, vaccinations won’t make much difference to the health of your family. They will make a difference to your dog’s health, though. Your children will be heartbroken should anything happen to their pet. You won’t be able to forgive yourself if the problem could have been prevented. Make sure you stay on top of vaccinations to ensure your dog has the best chance. You can’t buy these over the counter, so will need to book an appointment with your vet. Unlike other treatments, your dog will only need these once a year. Vaccination protects against various diseases, and will ensure you can take your dog out with no risk!
